Duncan Street

In 2018, maarch was engaged to design a 120 bed aged and dementia care facility in Victoria Park.

The proposed site is located in close proximity to the Victoria Park business centre and intercepts Shepperton Road and Duncan Street - a main pedestrian pathway from the Victoria Park train station, leading to the commercial hub.

The proposal extends into an activation of this main vein by creating a vibrant public interface. The design consciously makes a connection to the bustling streetscape, across from the local school, offering public amenities, a café, and an openly-accessible internal courtyard.

The heart of the design is this central courtyard, providing tremendous benefits for the well-being of residents at the facility. The café and play area in the courtyard provide the opportunity for inter-generational interaction where the local community and nearby school can engage and connect with residents.
